After the Launch: Taking Brave Action

The Alice Journal launched on May 4th, and that created a change in my life.

It's that I need to put the journal out into the world, which often means I have to put myself out there, too. For some people, this may not mean much of a change. But for me, what a big change!

All my life, I have kept myself from standing out. One reason was that in the country where I was born, there is a proverb I heard a lot, "the nail that sticks out gets hammered down." (If you don't conform or blend in, you will be in trouble.) This idea made me keep things to myself because I thought I was a little different.

I realize I can't be like that anymore if I want to keep creating my books.

In my eyes, Alice is very brave. She continues forward through confusion, uncertainty, and strange worlds, even when she couldn't help but cry. She inspires me; that's why I created The Alice Journal. It reminds us of Alice's bravery and helps us face our fears and let them go -- well, at least at a pace we can handle.

On that note, I may be doing a presentation for the journal at the upcoming comic fair in Toronto (TCAF 6/5-6/7), though it hasn't been finalized. It would have been unthinkable if you had asked me before completing the book. But because I just launched the journal, my partner put the idea in me, one thing led to another, and it may really happen.

Either way, taking “brave action” is one of the 29 themes The Alice Journal features. And I feel I need to be brave about this. So I have to see it through.

This is how The Alice Journal helps.
